Gambier, Ohio - Miami seniors Leah Thornton and Stacie Clagg, and sophomore Lacey Houser all won two individual events as the RedHawk women's swimming team easily disposed of host Kenyon College, 175-116, Friday night (Nov. 9).
Miami (4-1 overall, 1-0 MAC) got its first road victory of the season, registering victories in 11 of the 16 events.
Thornton, who won both the 100 backstroke (58.40) and the 200 back (2:06.34), also swam the lead leg of the 400 freestyle relay, won by the RedHawks in exhibition fashion. Senior Bekka Westrick, senior Maddie Kete and freshman Sara Krueger accompanied Thornton in the victorious relay.
Clagg got a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.09) and touched first in the 400 individual medley (4:34.59). She swam the latter event in exhibition.
Houser recorded wins on both the one-meter board (330.68) and in the three-meter event (315.30). Teammate Nikki Craft, a junior, placed second in both dives.
Single-event winners for Miami included freshman Aubrey Kluth in the 1650 freestyle (17:17.76), senior Molly Tyler in the 200 free (1:55.03), Westrick in the 50 free (23.84), Kete in the 100 free (52.29) and sophomore Stephanie Pearce om the 500 free (5:04.73)
Runner-up finishes were notched by sophomore Whitney Mitchell in the 200 free and the 500 free, sophomore Katie Bootsma in the 100 back, junior Cynthia Donovan in the 50 free, Krueger in the 100 free, freshman Emma Szczupakiewicz 200 back, and Kluth in the 400 IM.
Miami's quartet of Thornton, Clagg, senior Maegan O'Connor and Westrick took second in the 400 medley relay.
The RedHawks will now be off until Nov. 29-Dec. 1 when they host the annual Miami Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
