Columbus, Ohio - Sophomore sprinter Joe Baumgartner registered individual victories in the 50 and 100 freestyles, but Miami's men's swimming team dropped a 140-112 decision at Ohio State Friday night (Nov. 9).

A native of St. Louis, MO, Baumgartner recorded times of 21.32 in the 50 free and 46.80 in the 100 free.

Miami's runners-up included Columbus freshman Sean Neri in the 100 backstroke (53.00), junior Michael Cavanaugh in the 100 butterfly (51.74) and the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Cavanaugh, freshman Chris Dieter, senior Anderson Whipp and Baumgartner. The relay team's time of 3:10.47 was just two seconds behind the Buckeye unit.

Junior Sean Minderlein recorded the meet's third-fastest times in both the 500 free (4:44.11) and the 1000 free (9:46.30).

There was no diving competition.

"Our sprinters swam well," said Miami head coach Pete Lindsay, "but our middle distance swimmers came out a little flat today. I think it was a great meet in terms of acclimating ourselves to experience on the road."

Miami's men's record evened out at 2-2-1 (1-0 MAC). Its next action will be at the Nixon Aquatic Center from Nov. 29-Dec. 1 for the annual Miami Invitational.
