CLEVELAND - Miami University sophomore center back Courtney Zanotti has garnered Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her performance this past weekend, the league office announced Monday. It is the first such honor of her career.

Zanotti (North Royalton, Ohio) anchored Miami's defense over the weekend as the RedHawks won two games to clinch the MAC regular-season title for the second time in program history while remaining perfect in MAC play at 10-0-0. Friday at Central Michigan, she helped Miami pitch a shutout, starting and playing 84 minutes in the double-overtime victory, as the RedHawks won 1-0 to snap CMU's 38-game home unbeaten streak dating back to 2008. Despite cold, rainy and even dark conditions, Zanotti and the defense earned their ninth shutout of the season, one shy of the school record, as CMU was held to seven shots on goal. Sunday vs. Bowling Green, she started again and played 66 minutes, anchoring the backfield as Miami allowed just one goal and rallied for a 3-1 win. She helped limit the Falcons to just five shots on goal.

Zanotti is the second straight RedHawk to capture MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors as redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Allison Norenberg won the award last week. Miami has also claimed MAC Offensive Player of the Week five times this year with junior Kayla Zakrzewski winning it twice while senior Jess Kodiak, sophomore Kelsey Dinges and freshman Haley Walter have each earned it once.

Kodiak (Naperville, Ill.) was also honored for her performance over the weekend by CollegeSportsMadness.com as she was named the website's MAC Player of the Week. Kodiak scored two goals and had an assist in Miami's 3-1 comeback win over Bowling Green Sunday as all five of her points were tallied in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Miami closes out the regular season Thursday, hosting Ball State at 3 p.m. at Miami Soccer Field as the RedHawks look to become the first team in MAC history to win every conference game. Miami is also the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament, which starts Sunday, Oct. 28, as the 'Hawks will host a quarterfinal that day against an opponent to be determined.
