FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Miami University sophomore forward Austin Czarnik was selected to the Preseason All-CCHA Second Team, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Tuesday when it revealed its preseason all-conference teams.

Czarnik (Washington, Mich.) was the lone RedHawk to land on a preseason All-CCHA team as he totaled 31 points, including three first-team votes. He was one of just three sophomores to be voted preseason All-CCHA along with Western Michigan goaltender Frank Slubowski and Michigan forward Alex Guptill, who was the CCHA Rookie of the Year a year ago.

Czarnik, a CCHA All-Rookie Team selection last year, earned Second-Team Freshman All-America from Inside College Hockey after dishing out 27 assists and adding 10 goals for 37 points in 40 games in his rookie campaign. The 5-foot-9 center led all CCHA newcomers with his 37 points, which also ranked third in the entire CCHA. He posted a +25 plus/minus rating as a rookie, which tied for fourth nationally and was second on the team.

Czarnik captured CCHA Rookie of the Month for November a year ago, during which he was also named to the Denver Cup Classic All-Tournament Team. He garnered CCHA Rookie of the Week three times as a freshman, as well. Czarnik notched 10 multi-point games in 2011-12, including four three-point games, and ended the season on a career-long seven-game point streak which he will carry into this season.

Joining Czarnik on the CCHA Preseason Second Team was Guptill and Alaska junior Cody Kunyk at forward, Michigan senior Lee Moffie and Northern Michigan senior Kyle Follmer at defense and Michigan State junior goaltender Will Yanakeff.

The CCHA Preseason First Team consisted of Notre Dame junior forwards T.J. Tynan and Anders Lee, Western Michigan junior forward Chase Balisy, WMU junior defenseman Dan DeKeyser, Michigan junior defenseman Jon Merrill and the Broncos' Slubowski was the first-team netminder.

Michigan and Western Michigan led the Preseason All-Conference Teams with three honorees each while Notre Dame had two. Voting was conducted among the 11 head coaches in the CCHA. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

The RedHawks open the 2012-13 season with an exhibition game against Western Ontario on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. before beginning the regular season Oct. 12-13 by hosting Colgate. Tickets are available for all three games here. Fans can also purchase tickets to Miami's Faceoff Event on Oct. 10, which gives fans an inside look at the upcoming season and a chance to talk to and hear from players, coaches and special guest speaker Patrick Burke, here.
