2012 MAC Opener: After making its longest road trip of the year last week, Miami returns home to face the Mid-American Conference's newest member, Massachusetts in its 2012 Homecoming Game. The game is also the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
On the Air: In its seventh year of its partnership with IMG College, the Miami Sports Network continues its coverage of Miami Football with a group of affiliates blanketing most of Southwest Ohio and Southeast Indiana. “The Voice of the RedHawks” Steve Baker will deliver the play-by-play coverage, while Tim Bray will provide color commentary. • The Miami-UMass football game will be widely televised across the eastern one-third of the nation, including Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Orlando, Cleveland and New Orleans.
• With 176 passing yards vs. SIU, Miami’s Zac Dysert jumped into the top 10 of the Mid-American Conference’s all-time passing yardage list, moving past former MAC stars Walter Church of Eastern Michigan (9,142 yards,1996-2000), Bruce Gradkowski of Toledo (9,225 yards, 2002-05) and Nate Davis of Ball State (9,233 yards, 2006-08). Just in front of Dysert (9,235 yards) in ninth place on the list is Tyler Sheehan of Bowling Green (10,117 yards, 2006-09).
• The statue of coaching great Paul Brown will be unveiled Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Cradle of Coaches Plaza, at the south end of Yager Stadium. Brown, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, joins the statues honoring Paul Dietzel, Bo Schembechler, Weeb Ewbank, Carm Cozza, Ara Parseghian, John Pont and Earl “Red” Blaik.
• Miami begins its 65th MAC season on Saturday, seeking its 16th conference title.
