OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team dropped its series finale to Akron, 3-0, on Sunday. The RedHawks drop to 18-23 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-American Conference. The Zips improve to 21-12 overall and 7-5 in the MAC.
Miami was able to get a runner in scoring position in each of the first five innings, but was unable to come up with the hit to bring the run in. The RedHawks best chances came in the bottom of the fourth when Bree Lipscomb doubled to right center to lead off, and in the bottom of the fifth, when sophomore right fielder Tanya Busby hit an infield single to right field, while senior second baseman Kristy Arbour drew a walk.
Akron scored its first run in the top of the first inning off a walk a sacrifice and a single up the middle. The Zips brought home two more in the top of the fourth off an error and a wild pitch. Senior pitcher Paige Myers came into the game in relief from there, and did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings pitched. For the weekend, Myers did not allow a single run in 14.2 innings pitched.
Miami returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Morehead State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
