OXFORD, Ohio – Senior forward Will Felder notched a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing a career-high-tying 13 rebounds, as the Miami University men’s basketball team defeated Central Michigan, 86-80, on Wednesday night inside of Millett Hall.
The win brought the RedHawks above the .500 mark in Mid-American Conference play with a 3-2 MAC record and improved their overall record to 7-9.
To begin the game, Central Michigan (7-10; 0-5 MAC) got off to a quick start, taking an early 6-2 lead. Sullivan answered with a 3-pointer to kick-start a 7-0 Miami run.
The two teams exchanged points for the next several minutes, before Felder dunked the ball to give the RedHawks their largest lead so far. Miami led 32-25 with 3:49 remaining in the first half, but the Chippewas finished the half on a 4-0 spurt to cut the Miami lead to 32-29 at the intermission.
In the second half, Central Michigan came out on a strong 11-4 run. The teams found themselves deadlocked at 50 points apiece, but the RedHawks went on an 8-0 flurry and never looked back.
Miami slowly widened their lead throughout the rest of the half, holding a 76-66 advantage with two minutes left to play. CMU began fouling at that point, cutting away at their deficit but ultimately unable to come within striking distance of the ‘Hawks as Miami went on to the six-point win.
Felder notched over 19 points for the seventh time this season and the double-double was his second of the year and fourth of his Miami career. Sullivan’s 20 points were his third most of the year while Edwards’ 13 were his second most in his four games this season.
Miami heads to Bowling Green this Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the Falcons before returning home next Wednesday to take on Toledo at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will be televised on the TIme Warner Cable Sports Channel.
