CLEVELAND – The Miami University field hockey team was picked to repeat as Mid-American Conference regular season champions according to a coaches’ poll released by the league on Wednesday. The RedHawks received two first place votes.
Ohio also received two first place votes and was picked to finish second. Central Michigan and Kent State got the other first place votes and were picked third and fourth, respectively. Missouri State and Ball State rounded out the poll.
Kent State and Central Michigan were the co-favorites to win the MAC Tournament Championship, receiving two votes apiece. Miami and Ohio were each the pick of one coach to win the tournament, which will be held Nov. 8-9 in Oxford at the Miami Turf Field.
The RedHawks are coming off a 12-10 season, including a 4-1 record in MAC play. Miami won a share of the regular season title, and went on to win the MAC Tournament Championship for the first time in school history. The ‘Hawks return 18 letterwinners from last season’s squad; they are joined by 10 talented newcomers.
Miami begins the 2013 season on Friday at 18th-ranked Wake Forest at 7 p.m.
