NEW ORLEANS – Rob Stein (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian) represented the Miami men’s track and field program on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s All-Academic Team while the squad itself was also recognized for its diligent work in the classroom.
Stein concluded his senior season with a 3.50 GPA as a business management and leadership major to land on the individual academic team. The senior broke MU’s outdoor school record in the shot put when he launched a throw of 59-2 at the Miami Invitational. After scoring in both the shot put (sixth) and hammer throw (fifth) at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, Stein qualified for the NCAA East Region Preliminary for the fourth-straight season. He took 33rd in the shot put after throwing 56-9 1/4. This is the fourth-straight season Stein received USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition.
Additionally, the RedHawks collectively posted a 3.12 GPA to become one of the teams honored for achieving high marks in the classroom.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a competitor must hold at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and either finish in the top 96 nationally in an event during the indoor season or qualify for the preliminary meet outdoors. A team must achieve at least a 3.00 overall GPA to be included on the list All-Academic squads.
