JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The majority of the Miami men’s track and field qualifiers were in action for Thursday’s opening day of the NCAA East Region Preliminary Meet.
Five of the RedHawks’ six qualifiers competed in their respective events, with three landing in the top 35in their fields.
Tyler Yee opened MU’s day in the javelin, where he launched his third and final throw a distance of 198-5. That mark put him 35th in his event.
Two other field competitors were also in action for the Red and White. Senior Rob Stein represented Miami’s top finish of the day when he placed 33rd in the shot put after getting a mark of 56-9 1/4 in his last attempt. Fellow senior Sam Spallinger wrapped up the field portion of the RedHawks’ schedule by taking 40th in the long jump, clearing 22-9 3/4 on his final try.
On the track, the RedHawks got near identical finishes out of Skyler Coburn and Jahquil Hargrove. Coburn finished sixth in the first heat of the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 52.81. That time put him 36th in the overall standings. Hargrove ran the 400m in 47.30, which was fifth in his heat and 35th overall.
Miami’s final competitor in this weekend’s meet is sophomore Peter Stefanski. He competes in the high jump on Saturday at 5 p.m.
