Congratulations to the Miami University Class of 2014 who graduated last weekend! We are especially proud of all of our RedHawk student-athletes who earned degrees last weekend and enjoyed celebrating with them at a special student-athlete reception on Saturday.


Last Week: Miami continued its winning ways with an emphatic sweep at rival Ohio to clinch its first MAC East title since 2005. Seth Varner fanned eight batters in six innings while allowing just one run and all nine RedHawk starters recorded hits as they opened the series with an 8-5 win over the Bobcats on Thursday. (Recap) MU fell behind 2-0 early and still trailed 3-2 after seven innings, but Ryan Elble's two-run single in the ninth put Miami in front for good in an eventual 6-4 win on Friday to clinch the outright division title. (Recap. In the season finale, the RedHawks cranked out 22 hits, 11 extra-base hits and three home runs en route to a lopsided 16-1 victory. (RecapThis Week: The RedHawks open the MAC Tournament as the third seed and search for their first tournament title since 2005. The double-elimination tournament begins with Miami pitted against Buffalo on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.


Men's Track and Field

Last Week: The RedHawks placed sixth in the MAC Outdoor Championships with a total of 69 points. Dave Wing opened things up on a high note on day one when he finished second in the 10,000m with a time of 30:24.43, four seconds off the eventual champion. (Recap) Sam Spallinger highlighted five Miami scorers on Friday when he claimed fourth place in the long jump, clearing a distance of 23-8 3/4 as Miami sat in fifth after day two. (Recap) On the final day, Peter Stefanski came inches away from a MAC title when he cleared the high jump bar at a height of 6-10 3/4, matching two other performers. However, Stefanski lost the tiebreaker with Akron's Martel Durant to claim second place in the meet. (RecapThis Week: The RedHawks are off from competition but await word on which of their competitors qualify for the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet (May 29-31).

Women's Track and Field

Last Week: Miami crowned a pair of conference champions en route to an eighth-place finish at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Tori Paterra's huge personal-best and a MAC record of 183-5 to claim the title. The throw moved her up to third on the national performance list and her 10 points helped the RedHawks claim an early lead with 23 points after day one. (Recap) Amelia Strickler, Erica Howes and Erica Mudd put up points to keep Miami sitting in second after day two. (Recap) The final day of the meet saw Charlotte Myers claim gold in the 800m with a personal-best time of 2:07.42, highlighting five scoring performances by the RedHawks on Saturday. (RecapThis Week: The RedHawks are off from competition but await word on which of their competitors qualify for the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet (May 29-31).

Miami University senior field hockey goalkeeper Sarah Mueller was named to the 2014 Capital One/CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-District V Division I First Team last week. (Release)

Former Miami University men’s basketball head coach and 1965 alumnus Charlie Coles was one of seven individuals inducted into the Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 13. Coles’ granddaughter, Jazz Bennett, spoke on behalf of the family on Tuesday evening, delivering a powerful acceptance speech for Coach Coles’ induction.
