EVANSTON, Ill. – For the second consecutive year, the Miami University women’s tennis team will compete in the NCAA Tournament when they take on Northwestern at 4 p.m. (EST) on Friday afternoon. Notre Dame and DePaul square off at 1 p.m. (EST) on Friday with the winners of each match meeting at 1 p.m. (EST) on Saturday in the NCAA Regional Championship.
Miami (17-6, 7-1 MAC) rides into the NCAA Regional on the heels of a Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship, a regular season MAC title and a seven-match win streak dating back to April 5. The Red and White own a 91-39 record in match singles play this season while adding a 32-29 clip in doubles action.
Freshman Andreea Badileanu leads the RedHawks in wins with her 18-4 record while playing primarily at No. 2 singles. Senior Nimisha Mohan and junior Christine Guerrazzi each enter the NCAA Tournament carrying six-match win streaks in singles play.
Miami seeks its first win against Northwestern (16-6, 10-1 Big Ten), compiling an 0-7 all-time record against the Wildcats. The last time the two teams met was in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament when NU swept Miami, 4-0.
Northwestern enters the Tournament coming off it’s 16th-consecutive Big Ten title after downing Michigan 4-3 in the Big Ten Tournament title match. Wildcat individuals have combined for a 96-39 singles record in match play this season while racking up a 37-22 mark in doubles action.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to face the winner between Notre Dame (16-9, 8-6 ACC) and DePaul (22-3, 4-0 BIG EAST) at 1 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, May 10.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for patrons 18-and-under, college students and senior citizens over 55. All seats are general admission and can be purchased at the gate on the date of the match.
