CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dominance got rewarded on Monday afternoon as Miami University left-handed pitcher Seth Varner (Batavia, Ohio/Clermont Northeastern) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division’s Pitcher of the Week.

Varner hauled in his second weekly honor of the season thanks to the finest start of his career against Toledo on April 25. The lefty tossed his first-career complete game and held the Rockets to only two hits in a 1-0 victory. Varner fanned a career-high 12 batters, including 11 over the first five innings. He poured 83 of his 115 pitches in for strikes to post the shutout victory.

For the season, Varner is now 6-2 with a 2.51 ERA that ranks third in the MAC. His 1.65 ERA in league play is the best of any pitcher in the conference.

Miami returns to the diamond on Wednesday when it takes on Indiana.
