Strickler finished fifth in her respective event against a challenging 30-woman field, setting a personal-best mark of 15.11m/49-7 on her third throw. This mark shatters her previous season-high of 14.59m/47-10.5 set at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational in March, and now ranks second in school history. Strickler also now holds the sixth-best mark in the MAC for the shot put.
In the javelin, Paterra gave it her all on her first attempt, clearing a distance of 51.18m/167-11. She had the farthest throw throughout the remainder of the event until the very last mark when Georgia’s Freya Jones had the winning throw of 52.22m/171-4.
The rest of the Miami women’s track and field team will welcome 445 athletes from 20 men’s and women’s teams this weekend, as it hosts the RedHawk Invitational Saturday.
