OXFORD, Ohio – After securing their sixth consecutive regular-season Mid-American Conference title last weekend, the Miami University women’s tennis team shifts its focus to the MAC Tournament this weekend. The tournament will be held in Oxford at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts with competition beginning Friday at 10 a.m. and concluding with the championship match at noon on Sunday.
Miami (15-6, 7-1 MAC) enters the weekend riding a five-match win streak dating back to April 5. RedHawk individuals compiled an 84-38 record in match singles play this year while going 38-10 versus MAC opponents. On the doubles court, the Red and White racked up a 29-27 overall clip including a 14-7 tally in MAC action.
Miami earned the first-place seed and a bye for the tournament’s first-round after capturing the regular-season crown. The only other school with a bye is No. 2 seed Ball State. The No. 4 seed Buffalo Bulls will square off against the No. 5 seed Toledo Rockets at 10 a.m. on Friday morning with the winner set to meet Miami at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., No. 3 seed Eastern Michigan will face No. 6 seed Bowling Green in an opening-round match in which the winner advances to face No. 2 seed Ball State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Earlier this week, freshman Andreea Badileanu was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and also earned Second-Team All-MAC plaudits, while head coach Anca Dumitrescu was tabbed MAC Coach of the Year. Senior Nimisha Mohan was the other RedHawk to garner postseason recognition with her selection to the All-MAC First Team.
