CINCINNATI—Two Miami University student-athletes are being honored by the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association as the 2014 College Sportsperson for their respective sports at the 21st annual awards dinner on Monday, April 28. Senior Katy Dolesh was named College Sportsperson of the Year for Soccer, and senior Emily Gruesser was named College Sportsperson of the Year for Field Hockey.
Dolesh, who served as a captain for the RedHawks last season, tied for the team lead in goals with seven this season to go along with two assists for 16 points. She tied for seventh among MAC leaders in goals in 2013 and helped Miami to a MAC East Division title. Dolesh was a four-time All-MAC selection, earning first-team honors her last three years. She earned NSCAA All-Region honors for the second time in her career and was a three-time All-Ohio selection. For her prowess in the classroom, Dolesh was an NSCAA Academic All-Region selection in 2013 while earning Academic All-Ohio honors three times during her RedHawk career and twice being named to the Academic All-MAC Team.
Gruesser has been selected to an All-MAC team all four years of her career, making the first team as a senior. During the 2013 season, she appeared in all 19 games and had seven goals and three assists. Her 17 points on the season ranked fourth on the team. Gruesser helped Miami win the MAC Tournament Championship for the second consecutive year in 2013, after leading the team to both the regular season and tournament championships in 2012. She is also a two-time MAC All-Academic Team selection.
The awards dinner begins at 6:45 p.m., and 26 athletes, sponsors, administrators, and coaches will be recognized for their participation and contributions to women’s sports in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.
