OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’s Diversity Affairs Council recently announced that the Miami University International Student Organization (MUISO) was named its Organization of the Year for the 2013-14 school year. The president of the MUISO is field hockey senior goalkeeper Sarah Mueller, a native of Berlin, Germany.
Several of her peers and advisors nominated Mueller and her organization for this honor.
“I have been an advisor for ISO for the last year and a half,” said their advisor Amy Corron in her nomination letter. “They are an incredibly hardworking and passionate group of students that are successful in their endeavors of being resources and advocates for Miami’s international student population. I have witnessed them create, organize, and execute wonderful events on campus that bring together many members of our campus community.”
In Mueller’s own words, here is a description of the work she does with MUISO.
“The Miami University International Students Organization is an organization that seeks to promote cultural diversity and awareness within Miami’s student body. We provide a forum in which both international and domestic students can learn and appreciate the different cultures that the world has to offer. MUISO works closely with the International Student Scholar Services (ISSS) to advocate on behalf of the International student body and care for the well-being of International students both socially and academically. Being this year's president of MUISO, I am very happy to see the progress we have made as an organization. We are reaching out to more students and trying to spread more diversity here on Miami's campus. We are very honored to have received the Student Organization of the Year at the Lavatus Powell Diversity Award Banquet. This award will help us keep the momentum we experience at the moment to prepare for our third annual intercontinental week (ICW 2014). This week will be a weeklong series of events that involve a Pecha Kucha conference, a speaker from Dearborn Michigan, a dance work shop and fashion show and the grand finale will be our international fair, where we celebrate different cultures from all over the world in the form of booths and performances."
Congratulations to Mueller and all the hard-working members of MUISO for this great accomplishment!
