Harper's 26 Points Paces Miami to 67-66 Win over Ohio

OXFORD, Ohio—In front of one of the largest crowds in Millett Hall history, Miami pulled out a 67-66 decision over Ohio University in one of the epic battles of this rivalry on March 2, 1985. The Mid-American Conference’s top two teams slugged it out for 40 minutes in the regular-season finale.

Ron Harper led all players with 26 points and added 10 rebounds in the winning effort, while Ron Hunter also notched a double-double with 13 points and a game-high-tying 12 boards. Eric Newsome was the other player to score in double figures for Miami with 14 points, while Eddie Schilling added six assists.

The Red and White carried a 30-26 lead into the half and came out shooting 55.0 percent from the floor in the second half.

Vic Alexander led Ohio with 18 points.


Miami has one remaining home game on its regular-season slate as the RedHawks host rival Ohio at noon on Saturday, March 8 in the 193rd meeting between the teams. It will be a “Battle of the Bricks” doubleheader day at Millett Hall with the Miami University women’s basketball team also hosting Ohio. Game time will be 30 minutes following the conclusion of the men’s game at approximately 2:30 p.m.
