Last Week: Miami dropped a pair of games last week. Freshman guard Jaryd Eustace scored a career-high 17 points as Miami lost a 75-62 decision to Buffalo on Wednesday. (Recap) The RedHawks hit the road on Saturday and suffered a 68-57 loss at Western Michigan. (Recap) This Week: Miami returns home to host three straight games beginning with at 7 p.m. contest against Kent State on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Miami Athletics is giving fans a “High Five” for Wednesday’s game and with a pre-sale ticket offer of just $5 a ticket! The RedHawks then host Bowling Green for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Last Week: Miami pulled to within eight early in the second half, but the explosive Central Michigan offense used several three-pointers to pull away for an 88-47 victory Saturday afternoon in the RedHawks only game of the week. (Recap) (Coach Wright Postgame) Earlier in the week, Miami announced how fans can help in its upcoming Think Pink game. (Release) This Week: Miami returns home on Thursday when it hosts Ball State at 1:30 p.m. It is the sixth annual Class at the Court game, and over 1,500 elementary school students from the Talawanda School District will be in attendance. The RedHawks then travel to Kent State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.
Last Week: Miami dropped a pair of road contests at NCHC foe North Dakota. UND jumped ahead 3-0 early in the second period, but MU fought back on the strength of goals by Cody Murphy and Sean Kuraly to cut the gap to 3-2 in the final minute on Friday. UND held off the rally to top MU by that 3-2 margin. (Recap) The next day, UND scored the first four goals before downing MU 9-2. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks host NCHC leader St. Cloud State at Steve Cady Arena on Friday and Saturday. Friday night's contest is televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
Women's Track and Field
Last Week: Laura Bess continued her strong indoor season by adding another first-place finish in the mile run (career-best 4:49.21) at the GVSU Big Meet last Friday. Bess' mark is the second-fastest in Miami history. Charlotte Myers also had a solid day, finishing runner-up in the 800m (2:10.02). The field competitors were led by Adaora Anunike taking third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.59m. As a team, Miami took fifth in the 13-team meet with 26.5 team points. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks head to the Ball State Quadrangular on Feb. 21 in their final tune-up before the MAC Indoor Championships.
Last Week: Miami got wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles as the RedHawks defeated No. 75 SMU on Sunday afternoon in Dallas, Texas, 4-1. (Recap) On Saturday, the RedHawks fell at No. 63 North Texas, 4-1. Freshman Andreea Badileanu posted Miami’s lone point with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. (Recap) This Week: Miami travels to Eastern Kentucky for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Last Week: The Danny Hayden era began with a weekend series at Arkansas State. Rain pushed opening day back 24 hours and the RedHawks played a doubleheader with the Red Wolves on Saturday. Seth Varner allowed three runs (two earned) in a solid six innings, but MU's bats were blanked in a 3-0 loss in the first game. In the nightcap, Arkansas State broke open a 10-7 game with an eight-run seventh to sweep the doubleheader by an 18-8 count. (Recap) ASU finished the weekend sweep by downing MU 13-3 on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: Miami heads to Tennessee for the Mule Mix Classic. The RedHawks play Belmont on Friday, Middle Tennessee State on Saturday and Lipscomb on Sunday.
Last Week: Miami was idle this past week. This Week: The RedHawks return to action this weekend when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Spring Fling. On Friday, Miami takes on Canisius at 12:30 p.m. (EST) and Belmont at 3 p.m. (EST). On Saturday, the Red and White have a game against host Western Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. (EST). The tournament concludes on Sunday when Miami faces Bradley at 1:30 p.m. (EST).
Men's Track and Field
Last Week: Miami competed indoors for the first time at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday. Senior Kevin Brown won the 600m, crossing the line in 1:22.12. Other notable finishes included Peter Stafanski's runner-up performance in the high jump (2.12m) along with top-five placings from Andrew Fockler (third; 1:23.42), Skyler Coburn (fourth; 1:23.59) and Joey Comisford (fifth; 1:23.65) in the 600m along with a fourth-place 400m race out of Adam Bodrick (50.24). (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks compete in their final indoor meet of the season when they travel to the Ohio State Tune-Up on Feb. 21.
Last Week: Miami went 2-1 at the Mid-American Match Play Tournament in Dade City, Fla., finishing in fifth place. The RedHawks lost their first round to Xavier University, 4.5-1.5, but came back to win round two against Bowling Green, 5.5-0.5 on Monday. (Recap) Miami defeated Toledo, 4-2, in the fifth-place match at the Mid-American Match Play Championship Tuesday. (Recap) This Week: Miami is off until March 1-2 at the Colleton River Challenge.
Field Hockey announced Wednesday that five players will be joining the team as freshman in the fall. (Release)
Miami hosts its Nationals Send-Off Exhibition at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Steve Cady Arena. All three teams will perform for the Miami and Oxford Community before heading to the U.S. National Championships Feb. 27-March 1.
