OXFORD, Ohio—Six Miami senior swimmers will be honored Saturday, Feb. 1, when the men’s swimming and diving team hosts Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. in a Mid-American Conference clash at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Seniors Michael Cavanaugh, Dan Nemeth, Sam Flessner, Sean Minderlein, Will Olson and Mike Kline will be honored with Senior Day Ceremonies. Seniors Mike Cain and Jonathan Profitt, will also be honored after serving as team managers throughout the season.
Miami returns to the pool Saturday, following their second dual meet loss of the season, 134-166, to Mid-American Conference opponent University at Buffalo, giving them a 4-2 overall record and 1-1 MAC record thus far.
Junior Joe Baumgartner swam well for the RedHawks, contributing to 26 points for Miami. He won in the 100 freestyle, placed second in the 50 freestyle and was a member of Miami’s third-place 200 medley relay team in addition to being a member of Miami’s first-place finishing 200 freestyle relay team.
Cavanaugh, sophomore Heshan Unamboowe and sophomore Michael Nash each earned individual wins as well, winning the 200 IM, 100 backstroke and three-meter dive, respectively.
Freshman Grant Stafford didn’t win an individual event for the first time all season as he finished with two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Sophomore Evan Bader, who has also swam well all season, had two second-place finishes of his own against the Bulls in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Eastern Michigan enters their matchup with the RedHawks at 6-1 in dual meets this season. They are on a six-game winning streak after falling to Northwestern in their first competition of the season. The Eagles have most recently defeated Ball State, 163-115, on Jan. 25. They also defeated Wayne State, 180-118, on Jan. 24.
Miami fell to Eastern Michigan last season, 110-184, in Ypsilanti, Mich.
