OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team looks to earn their fourth dual meet win of the season when they travel to Evansville, Ind. to take on the Purple Aces on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m.
The RedHawks are 3-1 in dual meets this season and are coming off a strong showing against Cincinnati on Jan. 9, winning 162-134. Miami won the first nine events and finished with victories in 11 of the 16 total events. No RedHawks finished with more than one individual win in the total team effort, but senior Dan Nemeth, junior Joe Baumgartner and freshman Grant Stafford were not only individual winners, also contributing to impressive relay victories.
Stafford continued his season success with a win in the 200 IM and a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with sophomore Heshan Unamboowe, sophomore Evan Bader and Nemeth. Stafford has now won an individual event in every competition this season. He was the only RedHawk to finish first during the Miami Invitational, Dec. 5-7.
Sophomore Christopher Dieter has also been swimming strong this season. Dieter has won in the 200 freestyle event in three of Miami’s five scored competitions.
Evansville has a 2-2 dual meet record this season. The Purple Aces lost their first two matchups of the season to Southern Illinois and Missouri State, but have since won two in a row beating Ball State and Eastern Illinois. They defeated Ball State, 179-109, and beat out Eastern Illinois by a score of 126-79. Their last competitive match was Nov. 22-24 when Evansville swam at the House of Champions meet.
These two teams met last season in Oxford where the RedHawks won, 125-103.
