On September 14, 2013, the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen Greater Cincinnati Race for the Cure took place at Great American Ballpark. The Miami University synchronized skating teams participated in the 10K and the 5K races and collected donations for the cause.

Last year, the synchronized skating teams raised nearly $2,500. This year’s goal was to double their donation. Not only did the skaters reach their goal, but they raised $7,585.38 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

One week before the race, seniors Colleen Clancy and Devan Vossekuil organized a bake sale and all 52 members of the team took shifts at the Phi Delta Theta Gates on the corner of campus from 11 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on a Friday evening. The baked goods were $1 apiece and sold out before the night was done, raising $843.38. All proceeds from the bake sale also went towards the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

The synchronized skating team thanks all of those who made donations and looks to continue their involvement with this race next year and involve more Miami University women’s sports programs.
