Following a stellar athletic career at Miami, Jordan Goffena joined the Miami men’s track and field staff as an assistant coach in January of 2013. He enters his second season as the primarily coach for the RedHawks’ throws, pole vault and multi-events.

"Jordan was an exceptional athlete for us," Head Men's Track & Field Coach Warren Mandrell said upon his hire. "Since he was a decathlete, he has a lot of experience with a lot of different events. He was an NCAA first-round qualifier and was also an Academic All-American so he brings a lot of what we expect from our athletes to the picture."

In his first season as assistant coach, Goffena helped perennial NCAA preliminary qualifier Rob Stein close out his career with his best season. Stein broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 59-2 at the Miami Invitational, breaking the school’s oldest record that was previously set in 1955. Stein qualified for the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet for the fourth-straight season, but for the first time in the shot put.

Goffena spent two years competing at Cal Poly San Louis Obispo before transferring to Miami in 2010 for his final two seasons. As a junior, Goffena took third place in the decathlon at the Mid-American Conference Championships with a then personal-best 6,994 points. He also placed eighth in the heptathlon at the 2012 U.S. Indoor Combined Events Track & Field Championships while he set Miami's school record in the heptathlon with 5,421 points earlier that indoor season.

During his senior campaign, Goffena started the season out strong with a personal-best time of 14.23 in the 110m hurdles. He later qualified for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round in the 110m hurdles where he finished in 36th place with a wind-aided time of 14.14. The clocking of 14.14 seconds ranks Goffena second on the Miami all-time top 10 list for the 110m hurdles.

As a senior in the decathlon, Goffena took first place and recorded a personal-best score of 7,314 points at the All-Ohio Championships. His score of 7,314 points puts Goffena third on Miami's all-time top 10 list for the decathlon. At the 2012 MAC Championships, Goffena placed second in the decathlon with 7,215 points, earning him Second-Team All-MAC honors. He was a two-time MAC Field Athlete of the Week and two-time MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week as a senior, as well, while also garnering All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA following the season.

Goffena's senior capstone article, "Athletic Constructivism and Kinesthetic Inquiry," was published in the February edition of the USTFCCCA's Techniques Magazine. Goffena recently received his Level 2 coaching certification from USA Track & Field.

Goffena was born and raised in Sidney, Ohio and graduated from Miami in 2013 with a degree in Life Science Education. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Kinesiology.
