OXFORD, Ohio - Fresh from returning from holiday training trips, Miami University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Cincinnati Friday for a 5 p.m. meet against the UC Bearcats at UC's Keating Aquatics Center.

Diving competition begins at 3 p.m.

It's the second time that the RedHawks and the Bearcats have competed this season, following up their confrontations in the Miami Invitational from Nov. 29-Dec. 1. If those results are an accurate barometer, the men's teams may be decided in the final events of the evening. UC finished third at the Invitational with 1,508.5 points, compared to the 1,275 points accumulated by fourth-place Miami. A particularly good race should occur in the 1650 freestyle where Miami's Sean Minderlein and Alex Reinhardt will be matched up against UC's Joe Bott and Dylan Telford. Miami's Chris Dieter and UC's Joe Scherpenberg swam to exact 1:40.06 times in the 200 free. The 200 and 400 medley relay races also should be very competitive. RedHawk divers could account for several points in that competition. Coach Pete Lindsay's crew returned earlier this week from holiday training in Colorado. The RedHawk men are 2-2-1 in 2012-13.

The women's competition should be fairly spirited as well. Miami's women won the Invitational with 2,753.5 points while UC's women racked up 1,416.5 points. Miami is led by its talented senior corps of Bekka Westrick, Leah Thornton, Maegan O'Connor, Stacie Clagg, Mandi Grandjean, Ellen Barhorst, Molly Tyler, Laura Krueger, Stacia Schachter, Jenny Warmolts, Maddie Kete and Lisa Werwinski. The RedHawks are currently No. 2 in CollegeSwimming.com's Mid-Major rankings, trailing only top-ranked Harvard. Coach Dave Jennings' squad spent the week after Christmas by training in Boca Raton, Florida and competing in a non-scoring meet against James Madison University. The RedHawks are 5-1 in dual meets this season.

Both Miami's men's and women's rosters are loaded with Cincinnati natives, so a good crowd should be on hand to watch Friday's action.
