OXFORD, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday. Senior forward Kirsten Olowinski (Erie, Pa.) was named MAC East Division Player of the Week after a vote by the women's basketball coaches. It is the first weekly honor for Olowinski during her Miami career.
Olowinski stepped up her game on Saturday with Miami facing the absence of leading scorer Courtney Osborn. She had the 32nd double-double of her career when scored 13 points and brought in 13 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. She also recorded three blocks to become the all-time leader at Miami in that category, as well as contributing three steals and two assists. Olowinski also nearly had a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds in the RedHawks' first game of the week, a tough battle against No. 9/8 Kentucky. She finished with 21 points scored and is now only 10 points away from becoming the 21st player in school history to reach 1,000 for her career.
Olowinski is the second Miami player to be honored as MAC East Division Player of the Week this season. Osborn earned the award on Nov. 12.
The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday when they host Wright State in the annual Class at the Court game at 1:30 p.m.
