BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Miami University golf team shot a final round score of 18-over par 302 to finish the D.A. Weibring Invitational at 60-over par. The RedHawks finished in a tie for seventh place with Nebraska. Illinois, which is ranked 30th in the nation, won the event at 18-over par.
"Overall we competed well, but performed poorly," commented head coach Zac Zedrick. When it comes down to it, preparation is directly related to performance and it's my fault as the coach that something is missing with our preparation. We have two weeks until our next tournament, and we'll figure it out."
Freshman Jack Sparling finished his first tournament by shooting a two-over par 73 on Sunday. He finished the event at 10-over par and tied for 13th place.
"There were some bright spots to this week," said Zedrick. "Two freshmen gained valuable experience, while Jack Sparling had a great start to his Miami career."
Scott Cahill shot a 74 on Sunday, the second-best round by a RedHawk on the day. He finished tied for 32nd at 15-over par. Mark MacDonald was right behind him, tied for 39th at 18-over par. Ben Peacock was tied for 45th at 19-over par, while Daniel Schwarz finished his debut tournament at 27-over par and tied for 71st place.
The RedHawks will next be in action in two weeks when they participate in the Firestone Invitational, Oct. 8-9.
