2012-2013: Staley's RedHawk career began with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly contest at Evansville. He then went on to earn fourth-place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 100 fly at Purdue. He helped his team tie Cleveland State by taking fourth in the 200 fly and sixth in the 100 fly. In the Miami Invitational, Staley finished fourth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in the 500 medley relay, then placed fifth in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 fly. He also swam to an 11th-place finish in the 200 back and took 26th in the 100 fly. To kick off the second half of the season, the freshman won the 400 medley relay and took fifth in the 200 back at Cincinnati. He went runner-up in the 200 fly and finished third in the 200 back against the Buffalo Bulls, and took second in the 200 back and third in the 200 medley relay at Eastern Michigan. In Miami's final home event against Ball State, he took second in the 100 back. At the 2013 MAC Championships, Staley finished 11th in the 200 fly, ninth in the 100 back, and sixth in the 200 back.

High School: Four year letter winner and captain his senior year...holds the school and state record in the 100 backstroke (49.93)...won the Division 2 State Championships in the 100 backstroke in 2011 with a time of 50.32...his record time of 49.93 in 2012 shattered his 2011 record, earning him a first place finish at States for a second consecutive year... also holds school records in the 200 medley relay, the 100 butterfly, and the 400 free relay...five time All American in the 100 backstroke (2009, 2011, 2012), the 100 butterfly in 2011, and the 200 medley relay in 2012.
