CoSIDA/Capital One Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District Teams

OXFORD, Ohio - For the second straight year, Miami University redshirt junior David Eichenberger has earned Capital One Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country First-Team Academic All-District honors for Division I, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. He was named to the District V Team in 2012 after garnering the honor in District IV in 2011 prior to district lines being redrawn. By being selected to the First Team, Eichenberger is now eligible for the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.

Eichenberger (Plainfield, Ind.), who was one of just two Mid-American Conference athletes on the District V First Team, boasts a 3.95 grade-point average while double majoring in exercise science and history. He earned a 4.0 GPA and landed on the President’s List during the fall semester and earned Dean’s List this past spring semester with a GPA north of 3.5. He is the first two-time Academic All-District recipient for Miami cross country/track and field since Pat Sovacool in 2008 and 2009.

In addition to earning Academic All-District honors, Eichenberger was named Academic All-MAC for cross country in 2011, his third straight year earning the honor. He was named MAC Runner of the Week and MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week for cross country after finishing as the runner-up at the LSU Invitational Sept. 24, helping Miami win the title. He scored for Miami in four of the five cross country meets he ran in 2011, finishing in the overall top 10 three times. Eichenberger posted a season-best time of 25:51.07 at the All-Ohio Championships Sept. 30, placing 26th, and was 74th at the MAC Championship while trying to run through an injury. Due to his injury, he was unable to compete during the track season.

CoSIDA's District V consists of universities in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. To be eligible for CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District teams, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests and must have completed a full year at the academic institution. The teams are then voted on and selected by members of CoSIDA.

The Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America teams will be announced Thursday, June 21.
