2012: Of his 48 punts on the year, nine have gone for 50 or more yards and nine have pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line ... had a career-long 74 yard punt against Buffalo ... punted seven times against Ohio for an average of 40.1, pinning the Bobcats inside the 20 on one ocassion ... punted three times against Massachusetts with an average of 47.3 yards (long of 61) ... against Boise State, he punted five times for an average of 42.2 yards ... punted five times vs. SIU for 42.8 ypp (long of 54 yds) ... kicked nine times (37.1 avg) at OSU.

SCOUTING REPORT: The former walk-on, who’s now on scholarship, will start for a third year as Miami’s punter ... a good coffin-corner punter ... very conscientious and one of the team’s spiritual leaders ... pre-season magazines call him a MAC all-star candidate.

2011: Played in all 12 games as Miami’s primary punter ... punted 56 times for an average of 39.1 yards, with a long of 66 yards ... booted seven punts of 50+ yards and landed 13 inside the 20-yard line ... in the season finale at Ohio, he kicked two extra points.

2010: A third-team All-MAC selection as a redshirt freshman ... he punted 59 times and averaged 39.1 yards per kick, including a season-long 66-yarder at Buffalo ... in that game against the Bulls, Murphy averaged 56.7 yards on three punts ... 25 of his punts ended up as fair catches, 13 were downed inside the 20-yard line and four were touchbacks ... originally a walk-on, he was awarded a scholarship in mid August.

2009: Redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-time letter winner in football, he captained his team as a senior ... averaged more than 41 yards per punt and 57 yards per kickoff ... his 20 field goals (of 26 attempts) tied an Ohio single-season record ... earned second-team all-state honors ... he broke the school record with a 55-yard field goal ... played in Ohio's East-West All-Star Game ... also lettered in baseball as a pitcher and in basketball as a forward ... prep football coach was Andy Olds.

PERSONAL: Born May 3, 1990 ... son of Dan and Jodi Murphy ... dad played college tennis at Cedarville University ... majoring in middle childhood education at Miami, his GPA is nearly 3.0.
