KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Miami University softball team fell to Virginia Tech in its second NCAA Regional game, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks six-game win streak came to an end as they fell to 41-19 overall. The Hokies advance to the Knoxville Regional Championship game on Sunday as they improve to 42-19.

Miami will now take on the winner of the UAB vs. Tennessee game in an elimination game later Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that will face Virginia Tech on Saturday needing to defeat the Hokies twice to take home the regional crown.

Jessica Simpson pitched strong during the contest, but Tech was able to get her with several infield and blooper singles. The RedHawks were able to get out of every threat until a Dani Anderson single in the fourth with two outs brought home the game’s first run and ended a streak of 33.2 innings in which Simpson did not allow a single earned run. The Hokies would score single runs in each of the next two innings before breaking it open with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Miami was unable to generate much offense against Virginia Tech on Saturday. The RedHawks had only three hits, as Kirstie Fehrenbach, Jordan McElroy and Kayla Ledbetter each had singles on the day.
